Deep Water

Imagine what it would be like to almost drowned. The fear of drowning happens to a lot people that are just learning to swim. Also lots of different things or events happen to different people that change their life forever. In the story "Deep Water" by William O. Douglas William and I have had a tragic thing happen to us and we both are trying to get rid of the fear.

William had to get over his fear of drowning. If I were him and I experienced what William did with almost drowning. William almost drowned on his first day of learning to swim. Know showed up, but when someone did it was trouble the person the showed up was a big horrifying bully that throw William in the deep end. William had know clue on how to swim. He had almost drown 3 times. Just reading the story my lungs hurt trying to be able to not let water in. This would deeply scare me. After being almost drowned by the bully the bully saved him. After that William deiced not to go swimming but he figured out that that did not work. So he learned to swim. Although that would be horrible to live with I had a bad experience of my own with a car.

Although William had a struggle of the water I do have a fear of cars. This fear al started when my family and I were on our way to Florida. We stopped for the night at a hotel. But we needed food so my dad and I went to get food there were so many options to pick from. But deiced on KFC. So we were on our way back to the hotel almost there and a car hit us. I crashed forward and so did my dad. I hit my head really hard on the seat in front of me. My dad's legs got all cut up and he dislocated a bone in his neck. That night was one of the scariest nights if my life. After that horrible night we had to find a car because our car got towed. That took a really long time. After we found a car we were on our way to Florida but not the way I would have wished. When we finally got to the condo place. I was so excided. My dad didn’t walk the same and we all we really to relax but this was not going to happen the same because of what happened. Not I am so scared that that will happen again to me. So when I get into a car I try not to look at the road because if that happens to me again. I don’t think I will ever be able to get over it. But bit by bit I am trying to get rid of my fear of cars and the road.

Whether it is a fear of water or roads it does not mater you just have to work hard to over come your fears. If you do not over come your fears you will have to deal with them for the rest of your life. So which one would you rather do get rid of your fears or let them control you for the rest of your life?

Greed is Not the Best Thing to Experience in Life

 
How many times have you experienced greed in your life? We all have been greedy at least one time in our life. I know that I have been greedy more than once already, which I am not proud of. I really don’t like when people are greedy and want more and it seems to me that they have a lot of nice things already and they don’t need anything more. Many people don’t appreciate the things they have. In the story The Pearl by John Steinbeck, Kino the main character experienced greed which everyone some time in their life experiences.
 
Kino, the main character in this book became greedy after finding a large pearl in the sea. Kino thought it was the pearl of the world and he received this pearl from the God or gods. This pearl very quickly changed Kino's behavior. The reason this pearl was a great value to Kino and his family was because he does not have a lot of money. Also his son Coyotito had just been stung by a scorpion, so Kino needed the pearl to get money to then hire a doctor to cure his son. After everyone knows that Kino owns this great pearl of the world everyone somehow knows Kino and his family. It is not just that everyone knows Kino and Juana but, lots of people are trying to trick Kino into having him give the pearl to them to keep safely. These people are even trying to steal the pearl (that happened to Kino and Juana more than once).
 
Kino then tried to sell the pearl for a lot of money but the buyers were being very mean to Kino because of his skin color. The buyers we bidding very low on purpose to get the pearl for a low cost but, Kino did not want to sell the pearl for the low amounts that they were bidding so Kino did not sell the pearl there because of the buyers. After that Kino was going to go to the capital to sell the pearl. Juana (Kino's wife) wanted to get rid of the pearl because it was bringing out a mean side of Kino. Their house was burned down by the shadows. So Kino, Juana and Coyotito had to leave their home land. Kino and his family had to then only travel at night to be safe. Everyone wants to kill Kino because he has the pearl. Once it gets light out they have to find a place to hide until it gets dark again. Juana kept saying how much she wanted to get rid of this pearl because it was pulling apart her family. When they kept going they saw hunters that were trying to hunt them. Kino and Juana needed to find water. So they found a place but the hunters were guarding it. Kino killed the two hunters but when Kino was about to kill one they shot their gun and it just missed Kino and hit Coyotito in the head. That made me really sad. I don't like when books or movies end in sadness. Kino they found that the pearl was not worth this trouble anymore. Although Kino was very greedy about the pearl I have been greedy one time is when I got my Ipod touch.
 
Kino was so greedy with the great pearl but I was greedy with when I got an Ipod touch. This year for Christmas I really wanted to get an Itouch. I already have an ipod but it was a nano and I really wanted a touch Ipod. So I was asking and asking my mom and dad almost every day for one. Also on the weekends I would find adds of an Itouch. I would say to my mom look at Wal-Mart you buy an Itouch and get $50 credit at Wal-Mart. She would say we are not going get that this year. Finally it was Christmas and I really wanted that Ipod. So almost every gift hat I got from my parents I would shake it and say please be an Itouch please be an Itouch and each time I would open the gift and say thank you because it was something I wanted but it wasn’t an Itouch. I had one gift left and I opened it and it was not an Itouch. Then I had to get ready to go to my Uncles house and my dad called all of us in the room we opened the presents in and he said "I can't believe you guys didn’t see these presents". So we all went into the room and opened them at the same time. My older brother got a flat screen TV. and my younger brother and I got ipod touches. I was so excited! But I was being very greedy because I already had an Ipod and I just wanted the new thing. I was very lucky getting something like that expecting because we are redoing our kitchen. I am very grateful for what I got and I am so happy that I got the new Ipod. Although I was greedy, Kino and I are not the only ones.
 
Kino and I were greedy but I am sure you have been greedy before too. Everyone has been greedy before because it is only human. Some people are greedier than others. Some experiences of greed are small but other maybe large. I am not greed a lot but when I am it does not feel good for me. I know people that are greedy a lot so I don’t think that they even really think about being greedy because they do it so often. This is not something that I think is good to do to people that care for you are you care for them too. Greediness is not something to be proud of if you do it a lot.
 
I described about my experience with greed and Kino’s experience with greed. I also, mentioned greed itself and how it is not something to be proud of. If you are someone that is often greedy, you may want to think twice before you are asking for more. I hope that you are one of the people that are not too greedy and appreciate what you have.

"The Pearl" reflection of the whole book

In the book "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck I found out that just one pearl can change many lives and not always in the best way. This book I thought was a bit confusing. The reason I think it was confusing is because it was written a while ago and some of the time the grammar was kind of old so it was hard to under stand. I thought that the plat line was interesting on how the book actually ending. This book's plot line is tragedy.

The lesson of the story is to learn form Kino's mistake. His mistake was that he let the pearl over power his life and, let it ruin him and his family's life. I would never do this to my family. And if I did it would make me so mad and I would never be the same. Kino really loved the pearl to much that he only loved the pearl and not so much his family and he let the pressure take over him.

The ending of the story made me really sad. If it wouldn’t have been for the pearl and Kino's actions his son would not be dead. That really made me mad because I don’t like sad endings. So I really didn’t like the ending of the book. If I was the author of this book I would have ended the book by Kino throwing the pearl back and they would be happy again. And get back to their everyday life again.

In the book "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck Kino and Juana found a pearl in the ocean. And everyone wanted it. So one night someone came into their hut and was trying to take it. So Juana said that she wanted to get rid of the pearl. She thought that the pearl is going to separate her family and someone may get hurt if they keep the pearl. If i were them i would just pretend that the pearl is gone and then later i would sell the pearl when things are settled down. The pearl will destroy the family when Kino go crazy trying to protect the pearl. If I was Kino I would just get rid of the pearl to keep my family safe. If this would happen Juana would probably leave Kino and take the baby with her. Kino would then feel bad i am hoping and get rid of the pearl. If this did destroy the family I would hope that Kino would br a man and do the right thing. This is what I think will happen if they keep the pearl.

"The Pearl" by John Steinbeck Self Reflection

The main characters in the pearl are Kino, Juana, and Coyotito. Kino is the leader of his people. In the first chapter I liked how that really Steinbeck made you be able to picture the scorpion stinging the baby. You could really see what Kino and Juana's culture really was. The reason you could do that is because that when Kino and Juana found the scorpion the song of evil was on Kino and Juana's heads. Kino has many songs there is the song of evil and the song of family and the song of the sea. Also when they went to the doctor far the scorpion sting they did not like that the doctor would not see them because of their skin color and their family. That was very rude. The doctor is races. Kino and Juana are Indian. When Kino found the great pearl in the ocean. He was picturing what his life would be like with the wealth of the pearl. Know that Kino has want he thinks he wants. Everyone some how knows him. That is like using a person to get something you want. The doctor comes to Kino's house and lies about not being there. I think that the doctor when he gave the baby the medicine that was poison and when the doctor came back the baby was very ill. The doctor then cured the baby. Now the doctor wants the pearl for what he did. That is very mean I would have just done it out of the kindness of my heart. Then that night the pearl was almost stolen. Kino stabbed someone and that made that person go away. I don’t like that someone would try to take away someone's wealth when they didn’t have much. This book is not terrible but it is not favorite.
